Birmingham Bar Academy - Tuesday 22nd April 2008
Alphabeat descended upon Birmingham as headliners of the Wonky Pop Tour; a three pronged pop attack alongside Frankmusik and Leon Jean Marie all organised by Popjustice.com.
Frankmusik was ill and Leon Jean Marie was mediocre, but Alphabeat were non-stop fun times!
The tiny stage in Birmingham’s Bar Academy was covered with twelve dancing Danish feet as Alphabeat launched into a set jam-packed with pop perfection! New single ’10,000 Nights of Thunder’ went down a treat, featuring the sweetest do-doo-doos and nonsensical notions of someone being “so super-supremely ba ba di oh”! Tracks from their forthcoming album ‘This Is Alphabeat’ (Out in June) were equally brilliant; from the danceable disco beats of ‘Go Go’, through to the riotous sing-a-long wails of “ahh-ah-ah-ah, ah-ahh-ahh-ah, ahh-ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ahh-ah-ah, woo woo” on ‘Fantastic 6’.
Top ten hit single ‘Fascination’ reached new heights of infectiousness when combined with boundless-tambourine banging-maraca shaking-energy of Anders SG and the adorableness of Stine Bramsen, who is like a Scandinavian Tinkerbell. They’re all just so damn cheery and managed to leave everyone buzzing by closing their set with the Wonky Pop Allstars ecstatic cover of Daft Punk’s ‘Digital Love’!
